General Dentistry

Dental implants are a permanent and appealing solution to replace missing or extracted teeth. They are better than other alternatives such as bridges because no additional teeth need to be altered to place the new tooth. Implant, just like teeth, maintain bone levels, and prevent future bone loss and jaw disfigurement. An implant is as close as you can get to replacing a natural tooth. Dental implants are metal cylinders made of titanium that are surgically placed in the jawbone where teeth are missing. They replace the roots of missing teeth and support single crowns, large bridges and dentures. State-of-the-art technology makes it possible for these replacement teeth to look, feel and function like natural teeth. Dr. Malkin has worked with many implant systems since her post- graduate residency training in 2002 and is able to restore implants from different implant companies. If an implant needs to be restored or a restoration needs to be redone, she can also determine from radiographs and clinical exam what implant system was used even if no records are available from a previous dentist.

Dr. Malkin uses Nobel Biocare implants in most of her treatments. The reason for using this implant company, although one of the more expensive implants on the market, is because this company is a leader in implant dentistry and dedicated to continuing advances in implant technology. Nobel Biocare has more than 30 years of follow up studies on the performance of their implants. The implant parts from Nobel Biocare are guaranteed by the manufacturer for 5 years. Also, Nobel Biocare developed technology for computer generated implant bridges, crowns, and abutment, which guarantees superior fit and natural appearance. The are a few other first tear implant companies on the market such as Straumann, 3i, Neoss, Astra, and etc. However, patients should be careful about cheaper “ knock-offs” implants that have no research or extensive follow up supporting their design and implant surface. Although, FDA approved to use in the United States these implants have no scientific base to their design and their parts might not be available if these implants need to be re-restored down the line.
